Pulp Free Chat is a private AI chat app that runs entirely on your own computer and local network — no accounts, no email, no sign-up, no cloud storage. This is the reference feature list for version 1.1.17, the current production release.

New in 1.1.17

Windows is here. Pulp Free Chat now ships for Windows 10/11 (x64), alongside macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) — the same private, local-first experience on all three.
Attachments now get read, not just displayed. Pulp can now read the contents of attached PDF, Word, and Excel documents (in addition to plain text, Markdown, CSV, and JSON) and use them to answer your question — not just show them as a file chip.
Double Check / Triple Check got faster. Cross-checking a response against other models now uses smarter, tiered model selection — you get a second (or third) opinion without an unnecessary full re-run.
A cleaner first run. The EULA and “keep the service running in the background” choice are presented together on first launch, and your choice is honored consistently afterward.
A direct line to this forum. The About dialog now includes a link straight to the Orange Sun support forum.
More reliable installs. Smoother DMG installation on Mac (drag-to-Applications layout), and more consistent update/restart behavior across both platforms.

Everything Pulp Free Chat does

Privacy, by construction

No accounts, no cloud, no server-side history. Conversations exist only on your own devices and network.
The AI runs locally — your hardware answers your questions, not a remote server.
Chats are encrypted at rest, and search runs privately on your machine.
Voice stays on-device — speech recognition and spoken replies never leave your computer.
The only network exit is one you explicitly choose — the Search the Web toggle or Verify with Web, per message, plus update checks. Even then, results come with citations showing exactly what was used.

Getting started

On the same computer, the service starts automatically — no setup, no login.
From another device on your Wi-Fi, tap the QR-code icon for a Connect a device screen: scan the code (or enter the address manually), then confirm a one-time 6-digit pairing PIN. A one-time certificate-trust step handles older iPhones/iPads that need it, which also unlocks microphone access.

Chatting

Streaming responses, word by word, with a Stop button to halt generation while keeping what’s already written.
Conversations organize into threads, automatically named from your first message, that can be moved into folders, renamed, shared, or deleted — all saved locally and persisting across restarts.

Models

Switch models from the picker at the top of the chat; browse the full catalog under Manage Models, organized into Installed, Available for your machine, and Larger · advanced.
Every model list is cryptographically signed by Orange Sun and verified before download.

Voice

Push-to-talk and hands-free Conversation mode, 14 selectable voices, and adjustable pause detection for when you’re done talking — all processed on-device.

Double Check & Triple Check

Not sure about an answer? Ask one or two additional, genuinely different models to weigh in, and Pulp streams back a single consolidated response — entirely offline, no internet required.

Web Search & Verify with Web

Search the web (off by default, opt-in per message) brings in live results with a clickable Sources list.
Verify with Web re-checks an existing answer against fresh sources using a different model family — useful when a local model’s knowledge might be out of date.

Chat Search

Word Search (keyword, with highlighting) and AI Search (search by meaning) — both private, both run on your machine.

Trash Bin

Deleted conversations move to Trash and can be restored; permanent deletion requires confirmation. Trashed chats auto-delete after 30 days.

Conversation memory

Pulp remembers context across your conversations on-device, for more consistent replies over time. (On the Orange Sun AI Cube appliance, this extends to grounding answers in your own documents.)

Availability

Pulp Free Chat 1.1.17 is available now for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows (x64), plus the web/LAN client for connecting other devices on your network. Android and iOS remain in progress.
